We rent unmetered dedicated servers in Ashburn, Virginia at exactly our European price: from €209 a month, or $246.30 if you pay in US dollars, for 16 cores, 128 GB of RAM and a guaranteed 1 Gbps port. Ashburn is 5 to 8 ms from New York and 97 ms from Frankfurt.
Ashburn is the busiest datacenter market in the world, and most large networks and cloud platforms connect there. This post covers what we offer there, what the latency looks like, and how to run a European and an American server side by side.
What we offer in Ashburn
| Location | Ashburn, Virginia (US East), listed as United States on the order form |
| Servers | Dual Intel Xeon E5 from 16 to 44 cores, dual Xeon Gold 6148, and AMD EPYC from 24 to 256 cores |
| Network | Unmetered, guaranteed ports from 1 Gbps upwards |
| DDoS protection | 1 Tbps always-on (L3/L4), included with every server |
| Entry price | €209 ($246.30) a month for 16 cores, 128 GB RAM and a 1 Gbps port |
| Delivery | Ask us for a delivery date by live chat or ticket before you order; EPYC builds take up to 14 days |
| Access | Full root or administrator access and 30 operating system images, from Debian and Ubuntu to Proxmox VE and Windows Server |
"Unmetered" means nobody counts your traffic. "Guaranteed" means the port speed is reserved for your server around the clock rather than shared with other customers on the same switch. A 1 Gbps port can move up to 324 TB in a 30 day month. If you need the exact facility for a compliance review, ask us before you order.
Latency from Ashburn
These are typical round trip times from our Ashburn location, the same figures we publish on the Ashburn location page:
| Destination | Round trip |
|---|---|
| New York | 5 to 8 ms |
| Atlanta | 15 to 18 ms |
| Chicago | 20 to 25 ms |
| Dallas | 35 to 40 ms |
| London | 70 to 80 ms |
| Frankfurt | 97 ms |
| Amsterdam | 108 ms |
For a visitor on the US east coast, the difference between a server in Ashburn and one in Frankfurt is roughly 90 ms on every round trip. A web page needs several round trips before it starts to draw, so that gap is something users feel. For APIs, game backends, trading tools and anything interactive, it decides whether the product feels local.
Same server, same price as in Europe
We do not charge an American premium. The chassis, the port and every option on the order form cost the same whichever country you pick. Prices are monthly, exclude VAT and have no setup fee:
| Server | Cores / threads | RAM | 1 Gbps | 10 Gbps |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dual Xeon E5 2630 v3 | 16 / 32 | 128 GB | €209 ($246.30) | €659 ($762) |
| Dual Xeon E5 2690 v4 | 28 / 56 | 128 GB | €229 ($266.30) | €679 ($782) |
| Dual Xeon E5 2699 v4 | 44 / 88 | 256 GB | €299 ($346.30) | €749 ($862) |
| Single AMD EPYC 9254 | 24 / 48 | 128 GB DDR5 | €449 ($520.68) | €1,169 ($1,345.80) |
| Dual AMD EPYC 9254 | 48 / 96 | 256 GB DDR5 | €679 ($780.68) | €1,399 ($1,605.80) |
Dollar prices are what checkout charges when you pay in US dollars. Every port speed has its own page, from the 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps dedicated servers up to 100 Gbps and beyond. For ports of 20 Gbps and more, open a ticket before you order so we can confirm the build date.
Who should host in Ashburn
- US East audiences. New York, Washington, Philadelphia and Atlanta are all a short hop away.
- Audiences across the whole United States. If you can only have one American location, the east coast is the usual choice, because a large share of US users and networks are there. Dallas is 35 to 40 ms away.
- European companies selling in America. Keep the main platform in Europe and add an Ashburn server for American users, as described below.
- Download and media delivery to US users. An unmetered port means a busy month costs the same as a quiet one, which is not how cloud egress works.
- Services that attract attacks. Game servers and public APIs sit behind the same 1 Tbps always-on DDoS protection as every other server we sell.
One case where Ashburn is the wrong answer: personal data that must stay inside the European Union. For that, pick one of our European countries instead. Our guide to EU data residency explains the trade-offs.
A two-continent setup, priced
A common pattern is one server on each side of the Atlantic, with each region served locally and data copied between the two:
| Role | Server | Per month |
|---|---|---|
| Europe, primary | Dual E5 2630 v3, 1 Gbps, Germany | €209 |
| United States, primary for US users | Dual E5 2630 v3, 1 Gbps, United States | €209 |
| Total | Two dedicated servers, 64 threads, 256 GB RAM | €418 ($492.60) |
At around 97 ms between Ashburn and Frankfurt, asynchronous database replication and file sync work well. Each server can also act as the other's standby. If one region has a problem, point DNS at the survivor, as covered in our guide to redundant DNS across locations.
Ordering a server in Ashburn
- Open the dedicated servers page and pick a chassis and a port speed.
- Choose United States as the location, then your drives, IPv4 subnet and operating system.
- If the start date matters, ask us for a delivery date by live chat or ticket, then check out.
If you only need a small machine in Ashburn, we also run hourly VPS there, billed by the hour or the month.
