Everywhere else in this range, a wider port makes each gigabit cheaper. At this step it does not, and the reason is worth understanding before you put the two prices side by side. Crossing from 20Gbps to 25Gbps does not simply widen the port. It changes the machine underneath it, from the Xeon E5 generation to the Dual Xeon Gold 6148, a newer and physically different chassis with a different bill of materials. The tier price follows the hardware, not the five extra gigabits. Read the number that way and the apparent regression stops being a regression. It is the boundary between a platform that has reached its last port and one that still has room ahead of it.

What a committed 25 Gbps actually moves

A guaranteed 25 Gbps port carries 3125 MB/s of payload. Over a 30-day month at full utilisation that is a sustained ceiling of 8.1 PB, and a single 1 TB dataset clears the port in 5 minutes 20 seconds. In streaming terms it is 5000 concurrent 1080p viewers at 5 Mbps, or 1000 concurrent 4K viewers at 25 Mbps. Those figures are worth stating plainly because the bandwidth on every X-ZoneServers dedicated server is guaranteed and committed per tier, with no overage charge inside it. The rate holds on the worst evening of the month, not only on a quiet Tuesday afternoon, which is the only condition under which a capacity figure is any use for planning. Up to 1Tbps of DDoS protection sits in front of the port, and the 99.9% uptime SLA applies to it in all 12 locations.

Figures use decimal units (1 Gbps = 125 MB/s) across a 30-day month, at 5 Mbps per 1080p stream and 25 Mbps per 4K stream. They describe what the port can carry, not a guarantee of application throughput: disk, CPU and the far end all apply their own limits.

Five configurations are offered at 25Gbps. The Dual Xeon Gold 6148 opens the tier at €1799 with 40 cores and 80 threads at 2.4GHz, 256GB of DDR4-2133 and six SSD slots. The DDR5-4800 machines follow: Single EPYC 9254 at €2244, 24 cores and 48 threads at 2.9GHz with 128GB and ten NVMe slots; Dual EPYC 9254 at €2474 for 48 cores, 96 threads and 256GB on the same ten-slot layout; Dual EPYC 9554 at €2754 with 128 cores, 256 threads and 512GB across twenty-four NVMe slots; and the Dual EPYC 9754 at €3314, 256 cores and 512 threads with 1024GB. The distance between the first price and the last is not a bandwidth gap, because all five run the identical committed port. It is the compute and storage you put behind that port, which is the decision this tier is really asking you to make.

Serve live and on-demand video from a node you plan to re-tier rather than replace. The chassis you choose here is the one that carries the site through its next traffic step, so the hardware decision outlives the port decision by years.

Replication and backup targets

Off-site copies and database replicas that have to finish inside a window rather than merely finish. Sizing on a committed rate rather than a burst figure is the difference between a window you can schedule and one you hope for.

Regional game and patch distribution

Release-day and patch-day demand arrives as a wall rather than a curve. The dense EPYC options at this tier pair the port with enough NVMe slots to serve the same few large files to an entire region from local storage.

Multi-tenant hosting and virtualisation

Selling capacity to other people means their peaks all land at once. The DDR5 machines here bring the core counts and memory to keep tenants apart, on a platform that can take a wider port when the mix grows.

The one tier where cost per gigabit rises

Cost per gigabit is a useful number right up until it crosses a hardware boundary, and this is the crossing. At the entry configuration the ratio here is €71.96 per Gbps, against €57.95 on the 20Gbps tier. Nothing about the port is worse, and there is no surcharge attached to the tier itself. The Xeon E5 machines are offered up to 20Gbps and not above, so the cheapest server we can place behind a committed 25 Gbps port is a newer one that costs more to build. The tier below shows a better ratio because it is carried by older hardware that we buy for less. The honest version of the comparison is this: at 20Gbps you are paying for bandwidth on a platform that has finished, and here you are paying for bandwidth plus a platform that has not. Whether that is worth the difference depends almost entirely on how long you expect to keep the machine, and hardly at all on this month's traffic graph.

25Gbps dedicated server questions

Why is the price per gigabit higher here than at 20Gbps?
It is not a penalty for a smaller order, and it does not stay up. Every tier price starts from the cheapest machine we can offer behind that port, and at this one that machine is newer than the one below it. Above this tier the ratio resumes falling, because the wider ports reuse chassis already in the catalogue instead of introducing another new one. This is the only step in the range where the curve moves the wrong way.
What does the Xeon Gold 6148 give me that the E5 line does not?
On paper, not a core-count win. The top E5 has 44 cores and 88 threads against the Gold 6148's 40 and 80, so a raw thread count comparison flatters the older part. The Gold runs faster at 2.4GHz against 2.2GHz, and it is a generation newer. What you are really buying is a chassis we still sell at wider ports, so the machine's useful life is not capped by the network it was originally built into.
Should I skip 25Gbps and order 50Gbps instead?
If your traffic already fills more than this port on an ordinary evening, yes, and you should not spend a month proving it to yourself. If you are buying for what the platform becomes rather than what it serves today, no. The chassis families offered here also appear at wider ports, so moving later is a tier change on hardware you already run, not a migration onto something different.
How far can the machine I buy at this tier go later?
It depends which one you pick, so pick with that in mind. The Dual Xeon Gold 6148 is offered up to 100Gbps. The Single and Dual EPYC 9254 are offered to 50Gbps. The Dual EPYC 9554 and Dual EPYC 9754 are offered on every tier we sell, up to 200Gbps. The port is the easy thing to change afterwards, so choose the chassis for the ceiling you might eventually need.
Is a 100Gbps ceiling worth paying for if I never use it?
We will not pretend optionality is free. If you are certain the port stays exactly where it is for the whole life of the server, that headroom is worth nothing to you and the cheaper tier is the better answer. What we would push back on is treating the ceiling as an upsell. It is not sold separately and carries no premium of its own. It arrives with the chassis, and the chassis is what the tier is.
