OVHcloud bundles anti-DDoS and daily backups into its VPS range and runs a backbone it owns, which is a strong package. People look elsewhere when they want a faster port at the entry tier — VPS-1 is capped at 500 Mbit/s — hourly billing without moving to Public Cloud, or a smaller vendor where support is not tiered.     Best at: The lowest price per CPU core in Germany and Finland
    The other large European incumbent: Hetzner has run production hosting since 1997 from its own datacenter parks in Falkenstein, Nuremberg and Helsinki, and its AX dedicated line is the European reference point for cost per core. Cloud servers bill hourly with a traffic allowance and a low per-terabyte charge above it, and DDoS protection is included as at OVH, though the region list is shorter.

    Best at: A broad French cloud with no egress fees
    The French alternative to the French incumbent: Scaleway states that list prices include egress, so there are no outbound data-transfer fees, and the catalogue runs from €0.43/month instances up to GPU, serverless, Kubernetes and Apple silicon. Instance bandwidth is capped per type from 100 Mbps upward, across Paris, Amsterdam and Warsaw — narrower than OVH's footprint, but hourly billing is native.

Why people look for a OVHcloud alternative

  • 1The entry port: VPS-1 is capped at 500 Mbit/s and even VPS-4 at 3 Gbit/s; a full 10 Gbps means moving to bare metal or Public Cloud, with a different billing model.

Before you move off OVHcloud: a checklist

Five things that decide whether the switch goes smoothly. Most of them are about the invoice and the features you forgot you were using.
  1. List every OVH-side dependency first: Additional IPs, vRack, the bundled backups, the Anti-DDoS profile and any Public Cloud object storage — each needs a home on the new provider or in your own stack.
  2. Export the daily backup you actually rely on and restore it once on the target before announcing a cut-over date; bundled backups are the feature people forget they used.
  3. If you used OVH Additional IPs for mail or licensing, plan for new IP reputation: warm mail IPs gradually and update any IP-bound licences before the move.
  4. OVH VPS plans bill monthly, or on 12- and 24-month terms with a discount: check the commitment end date before you destroy anything.
  5. Run the new machine in parallel for a full week to compare the new provider's DDoS filtering on your real traffic pattern before you drop the OVH instance.

When to stay with OVHcloud

Switching has a cost. These are the cases where OVHcloud is still the right answer and this page should not change your mind.
  • Anti-DDoS bundled on every product and daily backups included are worth more to you than port speed at the entry tier.
  • You need Asia-Pacific regions such as Mumbai, Singapore or Sydney, or your procurement wants a large EU vendor that owns its buildings and its network.
  • You want VPS, object storage, Kubernetes and bare metal consolidated with one European vendor on one invoice.

What is the best OVHcloud alternative?

Which alternatives also include DDoS protection?

X-ZoneServers includes Layer 3, 4 and 7 mitigation on every plan at no extra cost, netcup and IONOS both list DDoS protection as included, and Hetzner filters at network level. Among the mainstream clouds it is less consistent — Vultr sells it as a paid add-on, and DigitalOcean does not publish a blanket statement on its Droplet pricing page.

Is OVHcloud cheaper than the alternatives?

At the entry VPS tier OVHcloud is competitive — VPS-1 lists from €4.53/month including German VAT with 4 GB of RAM and 40 GB of NVMe. Hetzner and Contabo undercut it on different metrics, and X-ZoneServers charges €6.00/month excluding VAT for 4 GB on a shared 1 Gbps port with a 100–300 Mbps minimum, rather than a 500 Mbit/s one. Compare port speed, minimums and VAT treatment, not just the number.

We are one of the providers compared

This page is published by X-ZoneServers (X ZONE IT SRL, Bucharest, Romania). We sell one of the two services compared, so this is a vendor comparison rather than an independent review. Our method is to quote each provider's own published figures, name the date we read them, and state plainly where the other provider is the better choice.

How the numbers are gathered

Competitor data is read directly from that provider's public website — pricing pages, specification sheets, network and location pages — on the dates listed under Sources, plus public network registries such as PeeringDB and bgp.he.net for ASN details. We do not benchmark competitor hardware ourselves and we do not republish figures from review sites or affiliate directories.

How to read the prices

List prices only. Promotional offers, first-term discounts, renewal rates, setup fees, add-ons, region surcharges and currency all differ per provider and can change without notice. X-ZoneServers prices are in EUR excluding VAT. Where another provider publishes in a different currency or inclusive of VAT, that is marked in the table — those figures are not directly comparable to ours without adjustment.
