The one rule that changes the math

The two gotchas worth knowing
First: a stopped server still bills. Stopping a VPS keeps its RAM, CPU, storage, and IP address reserved for you, so the meter keeps running; only destroying the server ends billing. Second: destroying is permanent, so move anything you need off the box first.
