X-ZoneServers vs Scaleway

X-ZoneServers vs Scaleway — which is right for you?

Scaleway is a French cloud with no egress fees, three European regions and one of the broadest product catalogues in Europe. X-ZoneServers is narrower by design: servers, dedicated hardware in eleven countries, and unmetered traffic on every VPS plan.

Resumo
Both providers refuse to charge for egress, which removes the usual argument between us. What is left is port speed and geography: Scaleway's development instances are capped between 100 and 300 Mbps and run in three regions; X-ZoneServers KVM VPS are capped in the same 100–300 Mbps range, our 10Gbps VPS line runs a shared 10 Gbps port from €9.99/month, and our dedicated servers span eleven countries. Choose Scaleway for the ecosystem — GPU, serverless, Kubernetes, Apple silicon, Elastic Metal — and us when sustained throughput or European coverage decides it.

Where Scaleway is the stronger fit

No egress fees, same as us — and a far broader catalogue

Scaleway states that list prices include egress and IPv6, so on the bandwidth-billing argument we are on the same side. What they add on top is a catalogue we do not have: GPU instances, serverless functions and containers, managed Kubernetes, managed databases, object storage, Apple silicon and generative AI APIs. If you want any of that next to your servers, this comparison is short.

A far cheaper first step

STARDUST1-S lists at €0.0006/hour — roughly €0.43/month for 1 vCPU and 1 GB of RAM. Nothing in our catalogue comes close for a tiny always-on task, a jump host or a cron runner, and pay-as-you-go hourly means you can hold dozens of them for the price of one of our plans.

French sovereignty and a 1999 operating history

Scaleway SAS traces back to Online SAS, founded in 1999 by Xavier Niel, runs AS12876, and is one of the reference answers when European procurement asks for a sovereign cloud with published compliance documentation. We are EU-based and GDPR-resident, but we do not carry that depth of enterprise paperwork.

Where X-ZoneServers is the stronger fit

A 10 Gbps VPS port instead of a 100–300 Mbps cap

Scaleway caps instance bandwidth by type: 100 Mbps on STARDUST1-S, 200 Mbps on DEV1-S, 300 Mbps on DEV1-M. Our KVM VPS from €4.00/month sit in the same 100–300 Mbps range, so at that tier neither side has the faster port. The difference is the 10Gbps VPS line: a shared 10 Gbps port on a €9.99/month plan that sustains about 1–2 Gbps. For throughput-heavy work — deploys, backups, large downloads — that headroom is the line on this page most likely to decide it.

Eleven countries against three regions

Their virtual instances run in Paris, Amsterdam and Warsaw. Our VPS run in Bucharest, Sofia, Warsaw, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Vienna and Ashburn, and our dedicated servers in eleven countries — including Iberia, Italy, the Balkans and the United States.

Guaranteed bandwidth tiers to 200 Gbps

Our dedicated servers are sold by committed port — 1 through 200 Gbps — with the monthly price of every chassis at each of its tiers on the page and no overage inside a tier. Scaleway sells Elastic Metal and Dedibox bare metal, but not a published guaranteed-bandwidth ladder of that shape.

Pricing scenarios

Comparable workloads at published list prices. Currency, VAT treatment, setup fees and promotional terms differ per provider — the disclosure below the table explains how to read them.

Smallest useful instance

X-ZoneServers
Nano — 2 GB RAM, 1 vCPU, 20 GB SSD, 100 Mbps port, unmetered — €4.00/mo excluding VAT.
Scaleway
STARDUST1-S — 1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM, 100 Mbps — €0.0006/hour, about €0.43/month, with storage and public IPv4 billed separately. Far cheaper, with bandwidth capped at 100 Mbps.

2–4 GB class

X-ZoneServers
Micro — 4 GB RAM, 2 vCPU, 40 GB SSD, 140 Mbps port, unmetered — €6.00/mo excluding VAT.
Scaleway
DEV1-S — 2 vCPU, 2 GB RAM, 200 Mbps — about €6.55/month; DEV1-M — 3 vCPU, 4 GB, 300 Mbps — about €14.74/month, plus storage and IPv4.

A throughput-bound workload

X-ZoneServers
KVM VPS from €4.00/mo are capped at 100–300 Mbps by plan, like their development instances. For sustained throughput, the 10Gbps VPS line from €9.99/mo shares a 10 Gbps port (about 1–2 Gbps sustained on Starter), and dedicated ports are guaranteed up to 200 Gbps.
Scaleway
Instance bandwidth is capped per type from 100 Mbps upward; higher throughput means moving up the instance range or onto Elastic Metal, priced separately.
Avaliação honesta: This is an unusually clean comparison because the usual fight — egress billing — does not exist between us. Scaleway does not charge for egress and neither do we. What is genuinely different is the width of the pipe above the entry tier and the width of the map: their development instances are capped between 100 and 300 Mbps in three regions; our KVM VPS are capped in the same range, but our 10Gbps VPS line runs a shared 10 Gbps port from €9.99/month and our dedicated servers span eleven countries. Against that, their catalogue is several times larger than ours, and a €0.43/month instance is a price we cannot match.
05Guia

Which one should you pick?

Pick X-ZoneServers if

  • Your workload needs more than 300 Mbps — the 10Gbps VPS line runs a shared 10 Gbps port from €9.99/month.
  • Your users are outside Paris, Amsterdam and Warsaw — Iberia, Italy, the Balkans or the US.
  • You need a guaranteed 10, 25, 100 or 200 Gbps dedicated port with a published price.
  • You want 1 Tbps always-on DDoS protection (L3/L4) stated as included on every plan.

Pick Scaleway if

  • You want GPU, serverless, Kubernetes, managed databases or Apple silicon alongside compute.
  • You need the cheapest possible always-on instance and 100 Mbps is plenty.
  • French sovereignty and enterprise compliance documentation are procurement requirements.
  • You are already inside the French cloud ecosystem and want one vendor.
06Perguntas

Perguntas frequentes

Does Scaleway charge for bandwidth?

No. Their pricing page states that list prices include egress and IPv6 addresses, so outbound data transfer is not billed separately — storage and public IPv4 addresses are. X-ZoneServers is likewise unmetered. On throughput the entry tiers are close too: Scaleway caps instance bandwidth per type from 100 Mbps upward, and X-ZoneServers KVM VPS run 100–300 Mbps by plan; above that, our 10Gbps VPS line runs a shared 10 Gbps port from €9.99/month.

How fast is a Scaleway instance's network?

It depends on the instance type. As listed on 2026-08-28, STARDUST1-S is 100 Mbps, DEV1-S is 200 Mbps and DEV1-M is 300 Mbps. Larger instance ranges offer more. Every X-ZoneServers KVM VPS from €4.00/month runs an unmetered 100–300 Mbps port depending on plan, and the 10Gbps VPS line shares a 10 Gbps port from €9.99/month.

Where does Scaleway run?

Virtual instances run in three regions: Paris, Amsterdam and Warsaw. X-ZoneServers sells VPS in Bucharest, Sofia, Warsaw, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Vienna and Ashburn, and dedicated servers in 11 countries: Austria, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain and the United States.

Which is better for a European sovereignty requirement?

Scaleway, if the requirement involves formal documentation. They are a French company tracing back to 1999 with published compliance and sovereignty material. X-ZoneServers is a Romanian company running EU plans in EU datacenters, which satisfies technical EU residency, but we publish considerably less enterprise compliance paperwork than they do.

Disclosure, method and limits

We are one of the providers compared

This page is published by X-ZoneServers (X ZONE IT SRL, Romania). We sell one of the two services compared, so this is a vendor comparison rather than an independent review. Our method is to quote each provider's own published figures, name the date we read them, and state plainly where the other provider is the better choice.

How the numbers are gathered

Competitor data is read directly from that provider's public website — pricing pages, specification sheets, network and location pages — on the dates listed under Sources, plus public network registries such as PeeringDB and bgp.he.net for ASN details. We do not benchmark competitor hardware ourselves and we do not republish figures from review sites or affiliate directories.

How to read the prices

List prices only. Promotional offers, first-term discounts, renewal rates, setup fees, add-ons, region surcharges and currency all differ per provider and can change without notice. X-ZoneServers prices are in EUR excluding VAT. Where another provider publishes in a different currency or inclusive of VAT, that is marked in the table — those figures are not directly comparable to ours without adjustment.

Accuracy and corrections

The goal is that every claim here can be verified at the source in under a minute. Nothing on this page is a benchmark result, a prediction, or a statement about a competitor's internal operations. If a figure has drifted or is wrong — including where the error favours us — write to us and we will correct it and move the review date.

Trademarks and affiliation

All company and product names are the property of their respective owners and are used here for identification and comparison only. X-ZoneServers is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or a reseller of any other provider named on this page.
