Alternatives guide
Hetzner alternatives: six options, and what each is actually best at
Hetzner is very hard to beat on price per CPU core inside Germany and Finland, so most people looking for an alternative are not looking for a cheaper core — they are looking for something Hetzner does not sell. Usually that is a location outside its six regions, unmetered or guaranteed high bandwidth, or more RAM per euro. Here are six providers that each answer one of those, with figures read from their own pages on 28 August 2026.

If you need locations in Southern or Eastern Europe, unmetered traffic or a guaranteed multi-gigabit port, look at X-ZoneServers. If you want more RAM per euro, look at Contabo or netcup. If you want bundled anti-DDoS and a global footprint, look at OVHcloud. If you want a broad cloud catalogue with no egress fees, look at Scaleway. If you want cheap single-tenant hardware outside Europe, look at Leaseweb.
How this list was put together
Each provider here is one our own customers actually weigh against Hetzner, and each entry states what that provider is genuinely best at rather than why it is worse. Figures come from the provider's own public pages on the dates listed under Sources. Where we publish a full head-to-head comparison for a provider, the link sits under its entry.

When to stay with Hetzner
Switching has a cost. These are the cases where Hetzner is still the right answer and this page should not change your mind.
- Your workload is CPU-bound, fits in Falkenstein, Nuremberg or Helsinki, and does not saturate its port — nothing on this list will beat Hetzner's price per core there.
- Your traffic sits comfortably inside the included cloud allowance, so the per-terabyte rate never actually bills.
- Your infrastructure is already defined in Terraform or Ansible against the Hetzner provider and the migration cost outweighs the difference.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Hetzner alternative?
There is no single answer, because people leave Hetzner for different reasons. For unmetered traffic or a guaranteed 10–200 Gbps port, X-ZoneServers. For more RAM and disk per euro, Contabo or netcup. For bundled anti-DDoS and a wider global footprint, OVHcloud. For a broad cloud catalogue with no egress fees, Scaleway. For cheap bare metal outside Europe, Leaseweb.
Is anything cheaper than Hetzner?
On price per CPU core in Germany and Finland, rarely. On RAM and disk per euro, yes — Contabo lists Cloud VPS 4 at €5.50/month with 8 GB of RAM and 100 GB of SSD, and netcup lists VPS 500 at €5.91/month including German VAT with 4 GB of DDR5 ECC and 128 GB of NVMe. Compare at the resource that limits your workload rather than at the headline.
Which Hetzner alternative has the most locations?
Of the six on this page, OVHcloud has the widest global reach with datacenters across Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific, and Leaseweb covers nine countries including Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Australia and Canada. Inside Europe, X-ZoneServers covers eleven metros including Madrid, Milano, Vienna, Warsaw, Sofia, Bucharest, Marseille and Istanbul.
Which alternative is best for high-bandwidth work?
X-ZoneServers, because bandwidth is what the product is built around: every plan is unmetered with no traffic counter, and dedicated servers are sold by guaranteed port from 1 to 200 Gbps with the price of every chassis at every tier published. Hetzner's dedicated servers ship 1 Gbit/s with unlimited traffic, which is enough for many workloads but is not a tier ladder.

Disclosure, method and limits
We are one of the providers compared
This page is published by X-ZoneServers (X ZONE IT SRL, Bucharest, Romania). We sell one of the two services compared, so this is a vendor comparison rather than an independent review. Our method is to quote each provider's own published figures, name the date we read them, and state plainly where the other provider is the better choice.
How the numbers are gathered
Competitor data is read directly from that provider's public website — pricing pages, specification sheets, network and location pages — on the dates listed under Sources, plus public network registries such as PeeringDB and bgp.he.net for ASN details. We do not benchmark competitor hardware ourselves and we do not republish figures from review sites or affiliate directories.
How to read the prices
List prices only. Promotional offers, first-term discounts, renewal rates, setup fees, add-ons, region surcharges and currency all differ per provider and can change without notice. X-ZoneServers prices are in EUR excluding VAT. Where another provider publishes in a different currency or inclusive of VAT, that is marked in the table — those figures are not directly comparable to ours without adjustment.
Accuracy and corrections
The goal is that every claim here can be verified at the source in under a minute. Nothing on this page is a benchmark result, a prediction, or a statement about a competitor's internal operations. If a figure has drifted or is wrong — including where the error favours us — write to us and we will correct it and move the review date.
Trademarks and affiliation
All company and product names are the property of their respective owners and are used here for identification and comparison only. X-ZoneServers is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or a reseller of any other provider named on this page.
