X-ZoneServers vs netcup

X-ZoneServers vs netcup — which is right for you?

netcup is one of Europe's best-value VPS hosts: DDR5 ECC memory, NVMe storage and generous specs per euro from Karlsruhe, on its own AS197540. X-ZoneServers sells fewer specs per euro and more network — twelve metros, unmetered gigabit ports and guaranteed bandwidth tiers.

Kurzfassung
Choose netcup when specification per euro is what you are optimising — their VPS 500 gives 2 vCores, 4 GB of DDR5 ECC and 128 GB of NVMe for €5.91/month including German VAT, which is more hardware than we give you at the same price. Choose X-ZoneServers when the network decides it: twelve metros against their five, a full 1 Gbps unmetered port on every plan, a 10 Gbps unmetered VPS from €9.99, and dedicated servers with guaranteed 1–200 Gbps ports.

Where netcup is the stronger fit

More hardware per euro, on better memory

VPS 500 gives 2 vCores, 4 GB of DDR5 ECC and 128 GB of NVMe for €5.91 including German VAT. Our Micro at €6.00 excluding VAT gives the same core and memory count with 80 GB of SSD. ECC memory on a €6 VPS is unusual and it is a real engineering choice on their part, not a marketing line.

Its own network, its own history, and a large customer base

netcup has operated from Karlsruhe since 2008, runs AS197540 registered in 2011, and states more than 200,000 customers. If you want a German host with its own routing and a long consumer track record you can look up, they answer that directly.

Storage expansion and snapshots on the same plan

Local Block Storage expands to 8 TB and copy-on-write snapshots are part of the product. We keep the VPS product deliberately simple, so if you want to grow disk without changing plan, or roll back a bad deploy from a snapshot, they ship that and we do not.

Where X-ZoneServers is the stronger fit

Twelve metros against five

netcup deploys in Vienna, Nuremberg, Amsterdam, Manassas and Singapore. We deploy in Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paris, Marseille, Madrid, Milano, Vienna, Warsaw, Sofia, Bucharest, Istanbul and Ashburn. If your users are in Iberia, Italy, the Balkans, Poland or Turkey, the nearest node is ours by a wide margin.

A stated 1 Gbps unmetered port on every plan

netcup lists traffic as included but does not publish a per-plan guaranteed port speed on the VPS overview. Every plan we sell states its port: 1 Gbps unmetered on KVM VPS from €4.00/month, 10 Gbps unmetered from €9.99/month. When throughput is what you are buying, that number needs to be on the page before you order.

Guaranteed dedicated bandwidth tiers to 200 Gbps

Our dedicated servers are sold by committed port — 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 25, 50, 100 or 200 Gbps — with the monthly price of every chassis at every tier published and no overage inside a tier. That is a different product category from a value VPS, and it is where a workload goes when a shared gigabit stops being enough.

Pricing scenarios

Comparable workloads at published list prices. Currency, VAT treatment, setup fees and promotional terms differ per provider — the disclosure below the table explains how to read them.

Entry VPS

X-ZoneServers
Micro — 4 GB RAM, 2 vCPU, 80 GB SSD, 1 Gbps unmetered — €6.00/mo excluding VAT.
netcup
VPS 500 — 4 GB DDR5 ECC, 2 vCores, 128 GB NVMe — €5.91/mo including 19% German VAT. More disk and ECC memory for a comparable figure; note the VAT difference runs in their favour here.

Mid VPS

X-ZoneServers
Basic — 16 GB RAM, 4 vCPU, 160 GB SSD, 1 Gbps unmetered — €16.00/mo excluding VAT.
netcup
VPS 2000 — 16 GB DDR5 ECC, 8 vCores, 512 GB NVMe — €19.25/mo including VAT. Twice the cores and more than three times the disk.

A high-throughput workload

X-ZoneServers
10Gbps VPS from €9.99/mo on a 10 Gbps unmetered port; dedicated with a guaranteed 10 Gbps port from €659/mo and 100 Gbps from €4,499/mo.
netcup
The VPS range does not publish per-plan port speeds or a guaranteed-bandwidth tier ladder on the pages we checked.
Ehrliche Einschätzung: On raw specification per euro netcup is ahead, and ECC memory with NVMe at this price point is a genuinely good deal — if you are sizing by RAM, cores and disk, buy theirs. Our argument is entirely about the network: twelve metros instead of five, a published unmetered port speed on every single plan, a 10 Gbps unmetered VPS, and guaranteed dedicated tiers up to 200 Gbps. Also compare like with like on tax: their listed prices include 19% German VAT and ours exclude VAT.

Which one should you pick?

Pick X-ZoneServers if

  • You need a location in Southern or Eastern Europe, Turkey, or the US east coast.
  • You want the port speed stated on the plan, not inferred.
  • You need a 10 Gbps unmetered VPS or a guaranteed multi-gigabit dedicated port.
  • You want no contract term at all, with hourly billing capped at the monthly price.

Pick netcup if

  • RAM, cores and disk per euro is the number you are optimising.
  • ECC memory matters for your workload.
  • You want snapshots and expandable block storage on the same plan.
  • A German host with its own ASN and a long consumer track record fits your requirements.

Disclosure, method and limits

We are one of the providers compared

This page is published by X-ZoneServers (X ZONE IT SRL, Bucharest, Romania). We sell one of the two services compared, so this is a vendor comparison rather than an independent review. Our method is to quote each provider's own published figures, name the date we read them, and state plainly where the other provider is the better choice.

How the numbers are gathered

Competitor data is read directly from that provider's public website — pricing pages, specification sheets, network and location pages — on the dates listed under Sources, plus public network registries such as PeeringDB and bgp.he.net for ASN details. We do not benchmark competitor hardware ourselves and we do not republish figures from review sites or affiliate directories.

How to read the prices

List prices only. Promotional offers, first-term discounts, renewal rates, setup fees, add-ons, region surcharges and currency all differ per provider and can change without notice. X-ZoneServers prices are in EUR excluding VAT. Where another provider publishes in a different currency or inclusive of VAT, that is marked in the table — those figures are not directly comparable to ours without adjustment.

Accuracy and corrections

The goal is that every claim here can be verified at the source in under a minute. Nothing on this page is a benchmark result, a prediction, or a statement about a competitor's internal operations. If a figure has drifted or is wrong — including where the error favours us — write to us and we will correct it and move the review date.

Trademarks and affiliation

All company and product names are the property of their respective owners and are used here for identification and comparison only. X-ZoneServers is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or a reseller of any other provider named on this page.
